What better way to celebrate World Cocktail Day than to drink our cities very own signature drink, The Vancouver. Although somewhat obscure, it can be had at some of Vancouver’s top cocktail lounges such as Shangri-La’s Xi Shi Lounge or The Parker. It’s made from gin, sweet vermouth, a splash of Benedictine, a dash of orange bitters and served icy cold with a lemon peel.
The Vancouver cocktail was created during the 1950’s at the Sylvia Hotel, which was the city’s first cocktail lounge. There’s a bit of Hollywood history with this drink. Legend has it, this was the last drink actor Errol Flynn had before he died back in 1959. It probably won’t have the same effect on you so use the recipe below to make your own:
2 oz Gin
1/2 oz Sweet Vermouth
1 teaspoon Benedictine
1-2 dashes Orange Bitters
Thin strip of lemon peel
